Burning cameras from HP!
Hewlett Packard has started to recall its Photosmart R707 digital camera because of an error in the software. The error can cause the camera to burst into flames when it is used with a non-rechargeable battery. Because of the error in the software the battery charging functions would not work properly, says Mercury News.
HP on Tuesday announced the recall of its software together with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. HP has sold almost 679,000 digital cameras of the type and of those, 224,000 have beed sold to U.S customers.
HP offers either a CD or a download to fix the problem along with the faulty software. The price of the camera is between $250 and $400. It was earlier thought that the cameras would work with non-rechargeable batteries , but the tests conducted later suggest that the canera can ignite when connected with non-rechargeable batteries.
The Duracell non-rechargeable CP-1 battery can cause the camera o burst into flames when it is connected with an AC charger or a docking station. An incident has been reported where a camera exploded while charging , but no harm was done to the user.
